  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 medium carrot (diced)
  • 2 stalks celery (chopped)
  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes (high-quality)
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions, celery, and carrots; sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until browned.
  3. Pour in crushed tomatoes and red wine; stir to combine.
  4. Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes until thickened.
  5. Serve over freshly cooked pasta or use creatively in lasagna or stuffed peppers.
