Vietnamese Pho, a vibrant and aromatic noodle soup, captures the essence of traditional Vietnamese cuisine. With fresh herbs, tender beef, and a fragrant broth seasoned with star anise and ginger, this dish is not only a feast for the senses but also a comforting meal perfect for any occasion.

  • 200g flat rice noodles
  • 300g beef brisket or flank, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, sliced
  • 3 star anise pods
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Juice of 1 lime

Instructions

  1. Prepare the broth: In a large pot, simmer 1 liter of water with beef bones over medium heat for 30 minutes. Skim off any foam.
  2. Add aromatics: Incorporate sliced ginger and star anise into the pot; simmer for an additional hour.
  3. Cook noodles: Boil water in another pot and cook rice noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water.
  4. Assemble bowls: Place cooked noodles at the bottom of each bowl. Top with thinly sliced raw beef.
  5. Serve: Ladle hot broth over noodles and beef until submerged. Garnish with fresh herbs, lime wedges, and soy sauce as desired.
