Perfect for brunch or a sweet treat, this recipe is surprisingly simple and yields stunning results. With each bite, you’ll experience layers of flavor that will impress family and friends alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (cold)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Gradually add cold milk until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  4. Prepare a butter block by rolling cold butter between parchment paper into a rectangle (1/2 inch thick).
  5. Roll out chilled dough into a rectangle large enough to enclose the butter block completely.
  6. Fold the dough over the butter like an envelope. Roll out again and fold into thirds like a business letter; repeat twice more with chilling periods in between.
  7. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut folded dough into triangles, place chocolate chips at the base, and roll up.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
