  • 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme (or dried thyme)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, slightly overlapping them. Season with salt, pepper, and half of the minced garlic.
  3. Pour half of the heavy cream over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the Gruyère cheese.
  4. Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes, seasoning again before adding the remaining cream and topping with more Gruyère cheese and thyme.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
