Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup crisp lettuce, shredded
  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 cup dill pickles, sliced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup (optional)
  • 2 tbsp mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or a skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef with salt and pepper; shape into four equal patties about 3/4 inch thick. Make a thumb indentation in each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Cook patties on the grill or skillet for 4-5 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
  4. One minute before removing from heat, place cheese slices on each patty and cover briefly until melted.
  5. Assemble burgers by adding lettuce to toasted buns, followed by the cheesy patty, tomato slices, pickles, and any condiments you like. Serve immediately.
