Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 4 fresh Italian sub rolls
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes or until browned and cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F or 70°C).
  5. While baking, heat marinara sauce over medium heat until simmering.
  6. Once meatballs are done, add them to the marinara sauce and let them soak for flavor.
  7. Slice sub rolls open without cutting all the way through. Fill each roll with saucy meatballs and top with mozzarella cheese.
  8. Place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
